The summer tournament series has officially begun!

Thursday, May 26, 2011

We’ve had some busy days in the office these last few weeks getting ready for tournaments to start.  I can’t wait!  The first tournament is a week from today at Honey Creek Golf Club and there are 100 juniors registered to play!  I am really looking forward to this summer and I know everyone else here in the office is as well.  Yesterday we had our first summer staff training day.&

I'm very excited to be posting my first blog as the new Communications Intern at Atlanta Junior Golf! My first day in the office is beginning to wind down. We have been buzzing with phone calls and busy getting things ready for another Rules Seminar that will be at the office tomorrow evening. Everyone is very excited for the Summer Series to get underway with school ending and the first tournament approaching in a few weeks. It has been a wonderful first official day, and I'm looking forward to be spending the summer with Atlanta Junior Golf!

We visited the First Tee of East Lake last evening to present our first Rules and Orientation Seminar of the year, a sure sign that golf is just around the corner. I was TRULY impressed with the Rules knowledge and enthusiasm that these players possessed. It was easy to tell that these players have some great coaches (Coach Nyre, Coach Bob and others) that care about their success and that each one of them had been working hard on their game and improving their Rules knowledge. I can’t wait to see these guys and gals on the course this summer!

This is exciting, my first blog as the new AJG intern! Today has been my first real experience of what the AJG office is like, and it has been a busy day so far. Tournament registration starts today, and the phone has been ringing off the hook all morning with people calling with registration questions and new members, it's great. Bridgestone just delivered 325 dozen golf balls to the office for member benefits packages and there are about 25 other large boxes piled up in the office full of towels too. I am picking the summer staff, a more daunting task than I imagined.

If there is one thing that all amateur golfers, juniors included, can learn from professionals, it is most certainly that knowing the Rules of Golf can help or hurt in a big way. Unfortunately, more times than not, learning this lesson comes at the expense of the player. The PGA and European Tours were only a few weeks into the season before two of golf’s top players were leaving the tournament early. During the first round of the PGA Tour’s Hyundai Tournament of Champions, Camilo Villegas found himself in violation of Rule 23-1.

It is very important to understand the benefits of drinking water on the golf course this summer. As of Thursday, June 24 the Atlanta area had seen its fourteenth straight day of above 90 degree temperatures. During the summertime, your body needs additional water in hot or humid weather to help lower your body temperature and to replace the fluid you lose through sweat. We would like to highlight some general guidelines for liquid intake while playing golf.

May was a very busy month for us here at Atlanta Junior Golf. We completed 16 orientation and rules seminars for our first and second year members, totally over 600 participants! What an amazing group of juniors, we really enjoyed every seminar this year and can’t wait to see everyone on the course this summer.

Tournament Selection is off to a running start! Last Wednesday we started the selection process with those who have been members since 2007 or before being allowed to have their first pick at the 2010 Summer Series schedule. Let me tell you that day was a crazy one; I don’t think the phone stopped ringing all day, which is great! We want you to know we are always here to help and enjoy speaking to our members.
