2011 Awards

The 2011 Atlanta Junior Golf Awards Banquet was a special evening for the 200 plus guests in attendance to celebrate the accomplishments of many junior golfers. Over 60 junior golfers were in attendance to be recognized for what they have achieved in 2011.

Atlanta Junior Golf introduced a new format to the 2011 event that allowed junior golfers the opportunity to say a few words upon acceptance of their awards. All of the junior golfers made sure to thank their parents for their steadfast support of them as they continue to strive to be the best they can be on the golf course.

Keeping with the tradition of the evening, juniors were recognized for their success in the following categories: All-AJG Teams, comprised of the top-10 juniors in all divisions; All-AJG Academic Teams, recognizing high school boys and girls who have excelled in the classroom during the previous school year with a 3.5 or higher grade point average; and Players of the Year for, boys and girls in the Open divisions, who completed the year at the top of the points list. GSGA Super Poster Awards were given to junior golfers who posted 25 or more rounds to there GSGA Handicap before August 1.

The new RBC Service Award was awarded for the first time in 2011. The award will be given annually to a junior golfer who are selected based on their commitment to the integrity of the game, willingness to assist others on and off the golf course and a strong sense of personal repsonsibility for performance. This year's awward was given to Zack Conley for his efforts on and off the golf course in 2011.

The evening concluded with many special awards. Melanie Talbott was awarded the Most Improved Award for her great improvement in 2011. She reduced her scoring average by 15 strokes from 2010. William Smith received the AJG Sportsmanship Award for his display of character and commitment to upholding the spirit of the game during the summer. James Scott received the Roh Wezner Award. The Roh Wezner Award is given each year to the junior golfer who has the best scoring average over the summer. James posted an average of 73.11 this season. Brock Nixon received the MAADA Award for earning the most points, 118 this season.

The 2011 Junior Golf Ambassador Award, presented annual to someone who has gone above and beyond to open doors for junior golfers in the area, was given to Gainesville Head Golf Coach, Bryson Worley. Coach Worley was unable to attend the evenings event but AJG is planning an event to get Coach Worley his award.
